The Heskel Group made history in 1985 by bringing to Queens the east coast's largest medical dignostic complex at the time, which included the first MRI/CAT scan center in Queens, NY. Queens Medical Imaging set up shop on the 4th & 5th floors of The Heskel Plaza located at 68-60 Austin Street. Up to then such medical facilities were occupied on the ground floor of a building, but The Heskel Group personally worked with Queens Medical Imaging on concept and the special design suitable to house the highly sophisticated equipment. An 80-ton room made of three-inch thick carbon steel walls and floors that had to be lined with a special copper shielding was designed--essentially building a building within a building in order to contain the magnetism and the radio waves of one of the magnetic resonance imaging machine. The renovation which should have taken a year was completed in five months.
